Hourglass can only do that? "Design time" people have different answers

at the upcoming Milan Design Week, Nendo For the first time, there will be a solo exhibition Nendo: Movement of Movement, which will bring ten collections of Nendo products in collaboration with different Japanese manufacturers. Also on display will be Nendo's latest design, Variations of Time, a set of irregularly shaped hourglasses made of clear acrylic.

"The hourglass has existed since ancient times and is still in use today, but its shape has not changed for thousands of years," Nendo said, because now people have more choices, such as digital clocks, the hourglass represents more emotional value than practical value , which "symbolizes time".

For Nendo, the purpose of designing the set of hourglasses is to "change people's perception of the flow of time".

This set of hourglass series includes four different hourglasses made of transparent acrylic blocks Hand-polished for an organic look resembling clouds and puddles. The four hourglasses use different colors of sand, different flow patterns and speeds. Each hourglass includes several cavities for one-minute, two-minute, and three-minute timing mechanisms. When people turn the hourglass in different directions , the timing mechanism will change accordingly. Compared with the hourglass falling vertically, this method gives more room for imagination.

In "Time Divided", for example, it describes how the hourglass "disassembles" time. The hourglass consists of three internal cavities, and the sand flows to the right side and stops filling after two minutes. Then it flows to the left, which takes three minutes, and the sand in the largest cavity flows to both sides for a total of five minutes.

< ;p style="text-indent: 2em; text-align: left;">Invert "Time Converted" to get different time . This hourglass consists of two intercommunicable cavities, and because of the different angles, the sand flows at different rates. It takes two minutes as it flows from one cavity to the other, turning the hourglass upside down and the time becomes one minute.
