According to the museum , "Sand Calendar" is 5.2 meters high and 1 meter in diameter. It takes one year for one ton of sounding sand to fall in Iide Town, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. The "Sand Calendar" was officially launched at 0:00 am on January 1, 1991 as the logo of the museum, and appeared in the comic "Sand Timepiece", which was adapted into a film of the same name in 2008.

The hourglass with a height of 1.06 meters and a diameter of 38 centimeters made by Americans was listed in the Guinness World Records, but the Guinness World Records confirmed that the "sand calendar" was the largest in the world, and asked the museum if they would like to be included.

A Japanese tourist who came to visit with his family from Osaka Prefecture said with a smile: "I've always wanted to come and see it before, and I'm glad to be able to see it after getting the certification."
